British writer-director Joe Cornish is reportedly Paramount's pick to direct Star Trek 3 now that J.J. Abrams is firmly entrenched in helming Star Wars: Episode VII.
While Deadline claims it's "early days on this," Cornish -- the director of the low-budget sci-fi flick Attack the Block -- is the one Paramount and financier Skydance Productions want to direct Trek 3, which is slated to begin filming summer 2014.

Cornish's name first surfaced as a Trek 3 candidate this past summer. Cornish recently dropped out of directing the graphic novel adaptation Rust, is attached to the sci-fi film Snow Crash, and had been a contender to replace Gary Ross as director of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire.
