Jay Z & Beyonce Lose Bid to Minecraft Creator for $70 Million Mansion

Jay Z and Beyonce’s rumored plans to move to California have been thwarted by a billionaire game designer. The power couple lost a bidding war for a lavish mansion located in Beverly Hills, Calif.

According to Curbed, Minecraft creator Markus “Notch” Persson snatched the mega-mansion from the Carters for $70 million. The house has been on the market since August, and Jay and Bey were the highest bidders before Persson closed the deal. The original asking price was $85 million.

This 23,000-square-foot property is epic. The home boasts a candy room, eight bedrooms, 15 bathrooms, a movie theater, a car showroom and a 54-foot curved glass door that opens onto the pool.

The hefty price tag also covered everything inside the mansion, including artwork and cases of Dom Perignon. It’s currently the highest price ever paid for a house in the Beverly Hills area.

We’re not sure how Jay Z and Beyonce feel about losing their potential love nest. They might not be able to find another bigger and more exquisite mansion in California.

Minecraft Adding New Block

While more experimental players have been adding in numerous blocks via Minecraft mods, the rest have to wait until the Mojang team makes an official release. Today's news, announced via Minecraft developer Jens "Jeb" Bergensten's Twitter feed, shows off a new block targeted exclusively at server admins.

The block doesn't have an official name -- though the working name Bergensten has is "Adventure Mode Control block" -- or release date, but it essentially allows server admins to program scripts exclusive to their adventure mode. For instance they could write it so doing a certain action rewards the player with experience. Bergensten says the block runs commands "on red stone signals," and adds that "with proper commands, many things can be scripted." The block is not craftable, and Bergensten, answering questions from the community, insinuated that you could program it to do any number of activities, even possibly using it to change the game's difficulty.

No Passwords Stolen in Minecraft Security Breach

After a Minecraft security breach over the weekend, Mojang reports that no passwords or personal information has been lost. According to Minecraft creator Notch on Twitter, a “flaw in [the] Minecraft authorization system” was exploited by hackers, which let them “log in as anyone” and control other people’s characters.

The servers were taken offline over the weekend as a result, but Mojang developer Leonard Axelsson notes on Twitter that "The session servers are back up again and it's no longer possible to login as someone else." In an updated blog post on the company’s official site, Mojang’s Lisa Winters also reports that “things are back up and running perfectly!” She also confirms that the breach did not result in "any leak of passwords or personal information” and thanks fans for being patient while the servers were fixed.

Minecraft will be updated to version 1.3 next month, rebuilding Minecraft’s single-player framework and adding emerald ore, new stairs and more. Minecraft was most recently released on Xbox 360, where special Summer of Arcade skins are now available.
