In a couple of months, Kanye West won’t be considered a college dropout. The rapper-producer is scheduled to receive an honorary doctorate from the Art Institute of Chicago.
In an interview with Jean Touitou of France’s Clique TV, Yeezy shared that bit information while talking about his creative influences.
“I was a gifted artist since age five and won national competitions and went to art school,” Kanye said in the interview. “I’m actually getting an honorary doctorate on May 5th from the Art Institute of Chicago.”
West did briefly attended college at the persistence of his late mother, Dr. Donda West. The “All Day” rapper was a student at the American Academy of Art and Chicago State University before leaving school to pursue a music career at age 20. Several years later, West released his 2004 debut album, The College Dropout, on Roc-A-Fella Records.
Elsewhere in the interview, ‘Ye talked about Drake, race relations in America, the fashion industry and his definition of “street knowledge.”
Whether you love him or hate him, get ready to call him Dr. West in a couple of months.
