Nicki Minaj is mourning the loss of a man who worked on her road crew after he was fatally stabbed Wednesday morning (Feb. 18) in Philadelphia.
The rapper shared the news on her Twitter page several hours after the tragic incident occurred. “Two members of my team were stabbed last night in Philly. One was killed. They had only been there for two days rehearsing for the tour,” she wrote.
According to Philly’s NBC 10, a bar fight erupted inside Che Bar & Grill around 2AM. The melee spilled out onto the street and a perpetrator pulled out a knife stabbing 29-year-old De’Von “Day Day” Pickett, and 27-year-old Eric Parker. The latter suffered multiple stab wounds while Day Day died from his injuries.
Pickett served as a road manager for several rappers in the business including Fabolous and Pusha T.
Fabolous expressed his heartbreak regarding his friends’ stabbing injuries, using Instagram as his platform. “My heart is heavy right now… My friend @daydaydoesdis (left) died & my friend Eric Parker is in critical condition in the hospital fighting for his life. I am still in shock & don’t want to believe this. And it hurts even more knowing how good these two dudes are. How hard these guys work. And how loyal they are to whoever they are down with & each other,” the rapper stated.
Pusha also revealed his pain after news hit his friend and business associate had passed away. “It’s killing me to talk abt you in the past tense,” the Clipse member shared. “I don’t believe I’ve ever met someone as selfless as you. No one as humble and for the team as you. I hired you as my road manager simply because I knew you were more honest than me.”
Parker is expected to recover from his wounds. “We believe he is going to survive his injuries,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.
While Minaj and Fab confirmed the victims’ identities, police did not release their names.
The suspect has not been apprehended at this time. He was last seen driving away from the crime scene in a gray Buick LeSabre.
The Pinkprint Tour the victims were apparently rehearsing for begins next month, kicking off in Stockholm, Sweden on March 16.
