The thespian community is mourning over the loss of beloved actor Philip Seymour Hoffman. The 46-year-old film star was found dead in his New York apartment on Sunday (Feb. 2), according to ScreenCrush.
The cause of death has not been confirmed although TMZ is reporting that Hoffman died of an apparent drug overdose.
Hoffman was a towering figure in the acting world having worked in theater, television and film for over 20 years.
In 2006, he won an Oscar for his brilliant portrayal of writer Truman Capote in the 2005 biopic ‘Capote.’ His expansive filmography boasts some of his most impressive work in such movies like ‘Moneyball,’ ‘Boogie Nights,’ ‘The Talented Mr. Ripley,’ ‘The Big Lebowski’ and more.
Hoffman had such range as an actor. From playing a baddie in the action flick ‘Mission Impossible III’ to a goof in the comedy ‘Along Came Polly,’ nothing was beyond his reach as an actor.
Hoffman is survived by three young children with costume designer Mimi O’Donnell. His family released this statement:
We are devastated by the loss of our beloved Phil and appreciate the outpouring of love and support we have received from everyone. This is a tragic and sudden loss and we ask that you respect our privacy during this time of grieving. Please keep Phil in your thoughts and prayers.”
Rappers and singers in the music world were also shocked to hear the news about the death of Philip Seymour Hoffman. They went on Twitter to expressed their condolences to the family of the late actor.
