Nikita's Shane West to Star in Salem

As Nikita comes to a close, star Shane West has lined up his next lead role in Salem, WGN America's first scripted series.

Set in 17th century Massachusetts, the show delves into the anthology of Salem's infamous witch trials and follows the life of Mary Sibley, the wife of the ailing but wealthy George Sibley, one of the town's Selectmen.

According to Deadline, West will play John Alden, "a hardened veteran of 10 years of war and captivity at the hands of the Indians who returns to his native Salem to find it consumed in Witch Hunt frenzy, led by Cotton Mather."

Also in the cast are Janet Montgomery (Human Target) as Mary, Seth Gabel (Fringe) as Cotton, and Tamzin Merchant (The Tudors) as Anne Hale, a talented artist who is attracted to West's character John.
