The wait is over. Kendrick Lamar’s sophomore album, To Pimp a Butterfly, unofficially arrived Sunday night (March 15), much to the chagrin of executives at Top Dawg Entertainment. If you were lucky, you were able to download the album via iTunes and Spotify before TDE put the kibosh on that.

Fans’ reactions, via Twitter, have been mixed so far. Some love it while others need more time to digest the music. Other listeners compare Lamar’s album to that of the Black Panther Party movement in terms of the his pro-black lyrical content. Then there are supporters making the connection between Lamar’s music and that of Parliament-Funkadelic.

However, there are a few rap fans who aren’t feeling Lamar’s LP overall. Some consider the subject matter to be boring while others aren’t fond of the production.

Songs like the previously released “i” and “The Blacker the Berry” are included on the effort as well as the recently leaked “King Kunta.”
